Yealand Conyers
Singing Weekend

New Songs at the Old School

Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th July 2018
with
Kate Thomas & Helen Lyle

 The Old School,
Yealand Conyers, near Carnforth, Lancs.

A long holiday weekend in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - come and meet new singing friends, relax in and out of doors and discover some fabulous new songs. We'll be teaching a mixture of some of our favourite styles - in past years this has included American shape-note, Pop and South African gospel amongst others. The weekend will offer both challenge and relaxation in the range of songs we sing. We will be teaching by ear and everyone is welcome.

With over thirty-five years combined experience of teaching singing groups, Helen and Kate are known for their relaxed, accessible style. They teach a range of groups and workshops, including Sheffield’s  ‘Purple Cats’ choir.

 Venue
The simple hostel lies just west of the M6 at the southern end of the Lake District. Morecambe Bay, Silverdale  and  Leighton Moss Bird Reserve are all within walking distance and there will be time to enjoy these and other local attractions together.
The Old School at Yealand Conyers is a simple holiday hostel run on a non-profit making basis by the Society of Friends (Quakers), which first came into being in 1652 in the local area. The neighbouring Meeting House, built in 1692, is still in active use and open to all for quiet reflection.

Accommodation
The hostel offers very basic dormitory-style accommodation (foam mattresses on the floor), plus one small room on the ground floor with 2 beds. There is a field adjoining the building with plenty of space for tents. For anyone who would prefer a greater level of comfort, there are several B&Bs close by. Please note, singing workshops will take place in an upstairs room accessed by a flight of approx 20 steps. Dining-room, showers and toilets are all on the ground floor.

Food

All meals will be provided. Food will be vegetarian with the addition of some cold meats at lunchtime. There will be rota slots for helping with domestic tasks.
